Internships

Congressional internships are an excellent opportunity for students to learn about our government and to contribute to Congresswoman Lowey’s work on behalf of the 17th Congressional District. Applicants will be contacted for interviews, either in person or over the phone, after the application deadline.

For internships in the Westchester and Rockland County District Offices: All internships in Congresswoman Lowey’s District Offices are unpaid. High school seniors and college students are encouraged to apply to the office located in the county in which they currently reside. The application deadline for 2020 spring and summer internships in either the Westchester or Rockland County district offices is Friday, February 28th, 2020. Applications for fall and winter are accepted on a rolling basis. Click here for the internship application.

For internships in the Washington, D.C., office:

In order to be considered for an internship, you must submit a completed application, resume, cover letter, and two 1-2 page writing samples. Click here for the internship application. Preference will be given to those who apply earliest and who are either currently in college or recently graduated. All applicants for an internship in the D.C. office must be available for a phone interview.

Congresswoman Lowey’s Washington, D.C., office offers the opportunity for college students who might otherwise not be able to pursue a D.C. internship because of costs to compete for a salaried internship of up to $1800/month. The intern must be from New York’s 17th Congressional District.  While full time internships are strongly preferred, part-time applications will also be considered. Preference will be given to students who have finished their freshman year but not yet graduated, though graduates may also apply.

Summer 2020 internship applications are due by close of business March 13, 2020. Please email the required materials to NY17Internship@mail.house.gov with the subject line “Summer 2020.”
