Representative Nita Lowey

Representing the 17th District of New York

Congressional internships are an excellent opportunity for students to learn about our government and to contribute to Congresswoman Lowey’s work on behalf of the 17th Congressional District. Applicants will be contacted for interviews, either in person or over the phone, after the application deadline.

For internships in the Westchester and Rockland County District Offices: All internships in Congresswoman Lowey’s District Offices are unpaid. High school seniors and college students are encouraged to apply to the office located in the county in which they currently reside. The application deadline for 2020 spring and summer internships in either the Westchester or Rockland County district offices is Friday, February 28th, 2020. Applications for fall and winter are accepted on a rolling basis. Click here for the internship application.

For internships in the Washington, D.C., office: In order to be considered for an internship, you must submit a completed application, resume, cover letter, and two 1-2 page writing samples.

Congresswoman Lowey’s Washington, D.C., office offers the opportunity for college students who might otherwise not be able to pursue a D.C. internship because of costs to compete for a salaried internship of up to $1800/month. The paid internship will be available to only one student per semester. The intern must be from New York’s 17th Congressional District and have finished his or her freshman year but have not yet graduated. Full time internships are strongly preferred, but part time applications will also be considered for the stipend.

Those applying for the salaried internship for fall/winter 2019 must submit applications by close of business Monday, July 29, 2019. All applicants for an internship in the D.C. office must be available for a phone interview. Please email the required materials to with the subject line “Fall/Winter 2019.”
