Lowey: “This is especially insidious during a global pandemic when it is more critical than ever that everyone has access to health care.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY17/Rockland-Westchester), Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after the Trump Administration finalized a rule to remove nondiscrimination protections under the Affordable Care Act for LGBTQ Americans:

“The Trump Administration has launched yet another mean-spirited attack to deprive Americans of the health care to which they are entitled by removing anti-discrimination protections for transgender people.

“This is especially insidious during a global pandemic when it is more critical than ever that everyone has access to health care. By intentionally depriving the LGBTQ community of health care, the safety and security of many lives will be at risk.

“This heinous action during LGBTQ Pride Month and on the anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting is further evidence of the President’s mission to undo progress and target already vulnerable groups for further marginalization.”
