Washington, DC – Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey (D-Rockland/Westchester), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on Yom Ha’atzmaut:

“On this Yom Ha’atzmaut, I join the Israeli people in celebrating 69 years of independence. For more than six decades, the U.S. and Israel maintained a relationship of steadfast support and cooperation. As our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel has been a key supporter in our fight against terrorism and the only country in the region where the voice of its citizens is regularly heard at the ballot box.

“But the U.S.-Israel relationship goes beyond security concerns. Our two countries are bonded through shared democratic values, common goals, and the unbreakable bond between our people. On this Israeli Independence Day, let us celebrate this important relationship and recommit ourselves to working together on challenges facing both our countries and our world.”
