2018 Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment for Health Insurance Ends January 31, 2018

It’s that time of year again—the open enrollment period for health insurance. Starting November 1, 2017 and ending January 31, 2018, New Yorkers who need coverage can enroll in New York’s health care market, NY State of Health. And those already in the marketplace must re-enroll. Here’s what you need to know:

Financial help is available.

Coverage could be more affordable than you think. For 2017, 6 in 10 people qualified for financial help to lower the cost of their coverage. The state Health Department estimates that many consumers’ premiums will actually decrease by 5 percent for 2018.

You must take action by January 31, 2018.

This is true whether you are re-enrolling in the marketplace or this is your first time getting covered. While the enrollment period for the federal marketplace has been cut, New York’s enrollment period will run for 13 weeks starting November 1, 2017. Take advantage of the extra time to compare your options, but know that January 31 is the cutoff for 2018 coverage.
